Help & FAQ

Find answers to common questions about using Creative Photography Group.

Getting started

You can sign up in three ways:

  • Email and password — Enter your email and choose a password (at least 6 characters). You'll receive a confirmation link to activate your account.
  • Google — Click "Continue with Google" to sign up using your Google account.
  • Discord — Click "Continue with Discord" to sign up using your Discord account.

After signing up, you'll be asked to complete your profile (nickname, avatar, bio) before accessing the full site.

During onboarding, you'll set up:

  • Nickname — A unique username (e.g. @johndoe) that appears in your profile URL. You can change it later from Account settings (confirmed by email, once every 60 days).
  • Profile picture — A profile photo. You can upload one or skip and add it later.
  • Screen name and bio — Your screen name is how you appear on your profile; it doesn't have to be your real name. Bio is optional.
  • Interests — Optional tags like "street photography" or "analog" that help you connect with like-minded members.
  • Email preferences — Choose whether to receive notifications about events and activity.

You can update most of these later from your account settings.

Events & meetups

Go to the Events page to see upcoming meetups. Click on an event to view details (date, time, location, description). If you're logged in, you can RSVP by clicking the "Join event" button.

You need an account to RSVP. Your RSVP helps organizers plan and lets you add the event to your calendar.

Our meetups vary — from casual photo walks to workshops and skill-sharing sessions. Check the event description for details. Bring your camera (or phone) and come ready to shoot and connect with other photographers. Most events are beginner-friendly.

RSVPing helps organizers know how many people to expect. You can cancel your RSVP anytime before the event. After the event, organizers mark who attended. Once marked, you'll see a "You went!" badge on the event — this helps you and others see your event history.

After RSVPing, you can add the event to your calendar. On the event page, use the "Add to calendar" button and choose Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple Calendar.

We send automated email reminders: an RSVP reminder about 5 days before the event (if you haven't signed up yet) and an attendee reminder about 1 day before (if you've confirmed you're going). You can opt out of these in your email preferences.

Some events have a limited number of spots. The event page shows how many spots are filled (e.g. "12 / 20 spots filled") or "Event is full" when no spots remain. RSVP early to reserve your spot.

Scene

Scene is our community-curated calendar of photography events happening in the wider world — exhibitions, photowalks, talks, workshops, festivals, meetups and more. Anyone can browse upcoming events, and logged-in members can add events they know about to share with the community.

On the Scene page, click the "Add an event" button. Fill in the event title, category, date, location, and any other details you have (website link, organizer, price). Your event goes live immediately — no approval needed.

You can submit up to 5 events per day. Please only add real, public photography events. Submissions that don't meet our guidelines may be removed by moderators.

Events are official CPG meetups organized by the community admins — you can RSVP, get reminders, and share photos afterwards. Scene is for external events: exhibitions, festivals, workshops and other photography happenings that members want to share with each other. Think of Scene as "things worth checking out" and Events as "things we're doing together."

If you see an event that's spam, inappropriate, or incorrect, you can report it using the Report button on the event's detail page. Moderators will review the report and may remove the event. If you submitted an event yourself, you can delete it from the event page.

Photos & gallery

Go to Account → My photos. You can:

  • Drag and drop photos onto the upload area
  • Click to browse and select files from your device

Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP. After uploading, you can add titles, descriptions, and tags, and organize photos into albums.

Albums let you group related photos. To create one:

  • Go to My photos (via your avatar menu) and switch to the Albums tab
  • Click "New album" and give it a name and optional description
  • Add photos from your library by selecting them and choosing "Add to album"

You can reorder photos, change the cover image, and set album visibility (public or private).

Shared albums let multiple people contribute photos to the same album. When creating a new album, expand the Album sharing section to enable sharing.

The Who can add photos setting controls access:

  • Anyone — Anyone with the link can add photos without requesting access
  • By request or invite — People must request to join or be invited before they can add photos

You can also set a per-member photo limit. Event albums are automatically created as shared albums so attendees can contribute their photos.

Each photo and album can be set to public (visible to everyone) or private (only visible to you). Private photos won't appear in the gallery or on your public profile. You can change visibility anytime from the my photos or albums pages.

You can like photos by clicking the heart icon and leave comments to share feedback. Likes and comments are visible to the photo owner and other viewers. Be respectful and constructive in your comments.

When you upload photos, we automatically extract EXIF data (camera, lens, and settings). This info is displayed to viewers on the photo detail page, so others can see how you captured the shot.

Photos and albums track view counts. The gallery page features "Most viewed this week" (popular photos from the last 7 days) and "Trending albums" so you can discover what the community is enjoying.

On the my photos and my albums pages, you can select multiple items (single or multi-select). Use the sidebar or action bar to edit, delete, or add photos to albums in bulk. This saves time when organizing large collections.

If you see inappropriate content, use the "Report" button on photos, albums, profiles, or comments. You'll be asked to provide a reason and details. Reports are reviewed by moderators, and you'll be notified when your report is resolved.

Challenges

Challenges are themed photo prompts (e.g. "Street Life", "Minimalism"). Each challenge has a deadline. You submit photos that fit the theme; submissions are reviewed by organizers who accept or reject them. Only accepted photos appear in the challenge gallery. If your photo is rejected, you'll see the reason in My challenge submissions (header menu → My challenges).

Go to Challenges (main navigation) to open the Photography challenges page. Click an active challenge from the Active challenges section, then click Submit photos. You can select photos from your library or upload new ones directly in the submission modal. Only photos you own can be submitted. You can usually submit multiple photos per challenge, depending on the challenge rules.

When you submit a photo to a challenge, organizers review it and accept or reject it. Here's how the process works:

Status flow

  • Pending — Awaiting review. You can withdraw before it's reviewed.
  • Accepted — Appears in the challenge gallery.
  • Rejected — Includes a reason from the reviewer.

View and manage your submissions at My challenges (header menu → click your avatar). The page is titled My challenge submissions.

Privacy

  • Photos must be public to be submitted.
  • Once accepted, a photo cannot be set to private.
  • Submitted by mistake? Contact us.

When submitting to a challenge, you can either select from your existing photos or upload new photos directly in the submission modal. Private photos are shown but cannot be selected. Both options are available — choose whichever fits your workflow.

Note: Photos uploaded during submission are set to public and appear immediately on your profile's photo stream.

When a photo is accepted into a challenge, it displays a challenge badge on the photo detail page and in My photos (header menu). This shows which challenges your work has been featured in.

Members & discovery

The Members page helps you find and connect with other photographers in the community. You can explore members by:

  • Interests — Browse popular interests and see which members share your passions.
  • Photo style — Discover photographers by the tags they use most often.
  • Recently active — See who has been sharing photos and albums recently.
  • New members — Welcome the newest people who have joined the community.

Click on any member card to visit their profile. You can see their bio, interests, public photos, and albums. Profiles also show when they joined and their achievements and stats.

Interests are tags like "street photography" or "landscape" that members add to their profile during onboarding or from account settings. They help you find like-minded photographers. The Members page shows popular interests and groups members by shared interests so you can discover like-minded photographers.

The "Explore by photo style" section shows popular photo tags used across the community. Click a tag to see all members who frequently use it — a great way to find photographers whose work matches styles you enjoy.

Account & settings

Go to Account (click your avatar in the Header → Settings) to update your screen name, bio, avatar, and interests. A preview at the top shows how your profile looks; use the Banner image and Profile picture sections below it to upload or change your images. You can change your nickname from Account → Basic info: we'll email you a confirmation link, and you can change it once every 60 days. Old profile URLs redirect for one year.

If you signed up with email and password, use the "Forgot password" link on the login page to reset your password. You'll receive an email with a link to set a new one. If you signed up with Google or Discord, you manage your password through those services.

Go to Account → Preferences to control which emails you receive. Each category can be turned on or off independently. You can change these settings anytime.

Email categories

  • Events — New event announcements and RSVP reminders (e.g. 5 days before an event if you haven't RSVP'd). Attendee reminders (1 day before) are always sent when you've confirmed.
  • Notifications — When someone comments on your photos, albums, or replies to your comments.
  • Photo challenges — New challenge announcements and results (accepted/rejected).
  • Challenge comments — When someone comments on a challenge you participated in.
  • Weekly digest — A weekly summary of activity and notifications.
  • Newsletter — General announcements and community updates.

Notification and announcement emails include an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Clicking it lets you opt out of that category without visiting account settings. Transactional emails (e.g. RSVP confirmations) do not include unsubscribe links.

You can delete your account from your Account settings page. Scroll to the "Danger zone" section and click "Delete my account".

When you schedule your account for deletion:

  • You will be signed out immediately and will no longer be able to log in
  • Your content will be hidden from other users right away
  • After 30 days, your profile, photos, albums, comments, and all associated data will be permanently removed from our servers

Changed your mind? Contact us through the Contact page within 30 days and we can cancel the deletion.

In account settings, you can choose your theme: Auto (follows your system preference), Light, or Dark. You can also set the album card style to Large (info below the image) or Compact (info on hover).

The Activity page (Header → Notifications → View all notifications) shows your notifications: likes, comments, replies, event reminders and announcements, challenge results and announcements, and report resolutions. Notifications are grouped by time (Today, Yesterday, This week, Earlier). You can mark them as seen or dismiss them.

You can add up to 10 interests to your profile (e.g. "street photography", "analog"). These help other members discover you on the Members page when they browse by interests or photo style.
